Tough and light, that’s one of the most common keywords for all spinning reels lately, for all fishing brands.
And now DAIWA informed new light but tough spinning reel renewal, DAIWA 20 LUVIAS for this coming Fishing Festival 2020.
Monocoque body + ZAION body = the lightest spinning reel
As of other middle – high range DAIWA spinning reels, yes, this 20 LUVIAS also has Monocoque one piece body, which can contain bigger gear by simplified inside because it doesn’t need to have screw place to close the cover (as the body cover itself has screw on it), gaining toughness and lightness together.
And as well as the previous 16 LUVIAS, this spinning reel’s body and rotor material are ZAION fiber that the DAIWA’s original carbon resin technology material, and this combination makes the reel the lightest in DAIWA’s spinning model.
Comparing to the other spinning reels – 20 LUVIAS LT2500 is 175g, and 18 EXIST is 180g, 18 Caldia (Rakuten Global) is 190g. Even Ballistick LT2500S-XH is 170g and 20 LUVIAS FC LT2500S-XH is 155g!

Comparison to SHIMANO 19 Vanquish
The biggest rival of this 20 LUVIAS is SHIMANO 19 Vanquish I would say.
Carbon body with lots of light weight features are the same for both of them.
Now let’s compare to those reels.

That’s very interesting I can see.
Vanquish model is C2500s, so the body size is about #2000 size, but DAIWA LT concept reels are a bit smaller than SHIMANO’s same number body, so those model sizes should be quite similar.
So weight is totall the same, but 20 LUVIAS gear ratio is a bit higher than 19 Vanquish as it is XH = extra speed gear. Naturally, retrieve range is more than 10 Vanquish too. Interestingly, 20 LUVIAS does not have normal speed gear model.
But maybe because of body size, 20 LUVIAS drag power is nearly double than 19 Vanquish. ATD, Automatic Drag System by DAIWA is characterized differently than SHIMANO’s drag system that you might be feeling DAIWA’s ATD is a bit weaker than SHIMANO’s because ATD is basically, trying not to line-break by releasing lines, even if you hook unexpected big ones. But still can imagine 20 LUVIAS drag can be stronger than 19 Vanquish’s (although 19 Vanquish 2500SHG has max 4kg drag power).
Bearing amount is 2 of them less than 19 Vanquish. And maybe because of it? The price is cheaper as well. Well yes, looks really like if you can’t afford to 19 Vanquish, you can probably think about this 20 LUVIAS instead.
Reel characters are so different in between SHIMANO and DAIWA so it all depends on how you like though, I can say this is very interesting reel in this 2020!
Spec and release date
This DAIWA 20 LUVIAS has multiple sizes in between #2500 – #4000 with FC = Finesse Custom #2000 – #2500 but only has normal gear ratio (5.1 / 5.2) and extra speed gear ratio (XH : 6.2).
* Finesse Custom body – compact body than normal number body to use for more “finesse” type of fishing.
Release date is announced as February 2020, the next month as well as 20 SALTIGA.
