Scorpion, this named baitcasting reel was liked and used from a lot of Japanese anglers for long while, and wanted to renew for years.
And at 2019, it happened – 19 Scorpion MGL, with beautiful red color body.

This Scorpion is low – mid price baitcasting reel from SHIMANO. However this contains a lot of features – Magnum Light Rotor II first.
Comparing to first Magnum Light Rotor, Magnum Light Rotor II has some holes at the side of spools which was not succeeded at first age, which makes spool rotating lighter and smoother than first one.
Spool rotating speed is also gained, and that means this spool can make longer cast distance than first age.

Micromodule Gear is also installed, which is SHIMANO’s original gear technology that has smaller teeth and therefore reeling feels much smoother and lighter. This can also mean sensitivity has also been gained, to catch information from your lure.

X-Ship is also installed against 19 SLX doesn’t. Micromodule Gear + X-Ship combination creates lighter and smoother reeling.

This spool is wider than other SHIMANO’s baitcaster reels. 19 Scorpion MGL Spool width is 25mm, against 19 SLX 23mm, 19 Antares 19mm.
This means, spool depth is shallower than others, so the spool does not need to spin too much, and that can gain cast distance.
So, I would think if you use this for saltwater, especially want cast distance, 19 Scorpion MGL is really good choice. Of course more expensive models can have better functions but if you are not? This can be your option.
