Personally, this can be my biggest news of the Japan Fishing Show 2019.
SHIMANO has renewed lots of popular spinning reels in these couple of years, such as Twinpower, EXSENCE, Nascii, Stella, and now the flag ship model of Quick Response Series is renewed… Yes, the Vanquish ’19.
This Vanquish has already renewed at 2016, as we announced, we did not actually expect this as lots of anglers actually gossiped Twinpower could be the one to renew.
But now Vanquish has been announced to be renewed, and that’s really drastic changes.
The Lightest of the Lightest
This new Vanquish ’19 is really interesting model, I dear say.
The main structure and features are the same or very similar to STELLA ’18, but this reel is much lighter than STELLA’18.
It is because some of parts are made by carbon, against STELLA ’18 has metallic parts. The previous Vanquish ’16 was already very light reels, but new Vanquish ’19 is lighter than the previous models, for all size and models.
Model | 16 Vanquish | 19 Vanquish |
---|---|---|
1000S | 155g | 145g |
C2000S | 155g | 145g |
C2500S | 175g | 155g |
2500S | 180g | 165g |
C3000 | 185g | 170g |

4000HG | 230g | 205g |
4000XG | 240g | 200g |
Light with Toughness… Can it be achieved?
And of course, we were also worried about toughness by that.
And our found answer is actually,,, YES. Fishing Show SHIMANO staff said, total toughness can be very much similar to STELLA’18, even with carbon bodies, with Hagane Body and Hagane Gear.
Honestly, I don’t really see such difference in between Vanquish ’19 and STELLA ’18.
Castability with Long Stroke Spool
Do you remember that STELLA’18 has different spool system from the others?
That’s called Long Stroke Spool, which has wider winding area than other model spools, which gives you longer casting distance, and yes, this is also installed to new Vanquish ’19.
We actually use lots of tackles but most of fishing are shore casting, targeting Trevally, Tailor, Mangrove Jacks, those kind of mid size fish eaters. And this Vanquish, I personally feel this is the most powerful reel I ever had.
When STELLA’18 is out, DAIWA also released EXIST’18, which has much lighter weight by Monocoque body. That was really interesting features and some around us uses it as well. But this Vanquish’19, to me it is like the lightest model of STELLA’18.
STELLA’18, you can feel that’s really sensitive to all information from sea, like tides, flow, baitfish, bites but a bit heavier than EXIST’18. And this Vanquish’19, all those negative points of STELLA’18 can be taken off.
But just to say, STELLA’18 is Core Solid Series, which is more stabilized and toughened to repeating to use, and Vanquish’19 is Quick Response Series which is to pursue all the lightness. I won’t say Vanquish’19 is not strong enough to use, but those reels are still in different ways of goals. Think what and how you use, what to target, and choose what to buy.
Spec and Release Date
This Vanquish ’19 has lots of different sizes with different spools, like STELLA’18, in between #1000 – #5000.
Release date will be on March 2019.

Great reel from shimano
Hi Ika, yes it is, everyone says it is very light and smooth than others. Especially for sensitive fishing like trout, squid this could be the best choice.
Se podrían cambiar las bobinas del vanquish 2016 y 2019 entre si
If you could comment us in English it would help all other users as well.
Apart from that, if you meant about the spool the difference in between 2016 and 2019 is basically their stroke, 2019 model is long stroke done so they are not common size.
Hi.
I recently purchased a St. Croix Legend Tournament spinning rod, with the following features:
Length: 8.4 ”
Action: Extra Fast
Power: Medium
Line: 6-12 Lb
Lure: 1 / 4-5 / 8 oz.
The rod is to be used on the shore and to be able to make long casts.
I want to ride it with a SHIMANO 19 VANQUISH, but I doubt whether to buy the 3000XG or the 4000XG.
Please, could you tell me which of the models would be the most appropriate for that spinning rod.
Thank you very much and greetings!
Hi Jabilusik, thank you for your comment. I think I would use 4000XG for your rod if you use mono line of 6 – 12lb, or 4000MHG if you use braided line. Looks like your rod has power to fight, so bigger reel can fit better with balance of weight and power but 6 – 12lb is quite light, so I might have selected medium depth spool. Depends on what you like, as 4000XG can also use for light jigging or middle size lure fishing with around 30lb braid lines, so you can have more variety by one reel, especially if you get spare spools.
Hope it helps 🙂
