Nowadays, there are plenty of type of fishing, even for the same target.
Have you tried offshore jigging? Have you ever tried electric reel for offshore bait fishing?
Now it is combined. Yes, that’s “electric jigging”, which new SHIMANO Beast Master 2000EJis specialised for.
Here I introduce you what electric jigging is, how it works and how new Beast Master works for it.
What is “electric jigging” and how it works
If you have already tried, or been doing offshore jigging, you know that’s very hard type of fishing physically.
High pitching jerk with 200g, 300g, 400g sometimes for long while.. And even after you hook fish, it can be a monster, such as kingfish, amberjack, tuna, etc..Offshore jigging is such a tough one.
Therefore some offshore anglers thought, is there any way to reduce toughness of this type of fishing somehow? And started using electric reel for offshore jigging.
Yes, electric jigging is for fishing type that you use electric reel for offshore jigging.
(From 5:56 electric jigging is described. From 7:35 electric jigging is focused. Turn on auto translate as the sound is Japanese)
I haven’t seen such many anglers use electric reel in English countries, but it is very common in Japan, for offshore bait fishing.
If you use deep sea fishing charters skippers search fish by sonar, and tell you how deep it is, and how deep fish hang around. But if you just use normal gears without counter / motor, it’s a bit hard to see how deep you are at. So, people use electric reel to match up with skipper’s information.

So why you use electric reel for offshore jigging?
If you start any type of jigging you will see it.. The way of jig action is so much!
Fast pitch, slow pitch, long jerk, slow jerk.. With short jig, long jig, flat wide jig, small tungsten jig..
You have lots of things you can try to get the right pattern of the day.
But especially for fast pitch jerking, it is very hard to do whole day, or very hard to make very fast reeling. But it can be much easier with electric reels! You can just switch the fast reeling on, then concentrate into your rod work.
You can just keep fast reeling as much as you can, with no handle action. Even if you get tired, the reeling speed can be even.
Think about kingfish jigging. Normal yellow fin kingfish, they are very aggressive and fast pitch jerking can work very much. But sometimes, you might need to keep real fast pitch action to attract them. Sometimes it may not be able to be achieved manually. Sometimes they like super fast action, and there can be the case that electric reel can only achieve.
And this can make another profit of electric jigging – physically easier, of course.
Because you don’t need to circle your handle!
SHIMANO Beast Master 2000EJ
As I have already described above, SHIMANO Beast Master 2000EJ is especially designed for electric jigging fishing. Now, how?
Toughened up gears
“2 x durability gear is installed” as SHIMANO staff says.
Gear durability was one of matters when electric jigging. Basically normal electric reels are made for offshore bait fishing, that you don’t really need to jerk, so when you use it for electric jigging gear durability was not enough sometimes.
So, SHIMANO has made 2x stronger gear and installed to Beast Master 2000EJ so it won’t be cracked or broken easily from electric jigging.
New EJ = electric jigging mode is featured
As of described already, very fast pitch action is one of strength of electric jigging.
But of course, this is not only the method working at the day.
EJ mode is the new feature to make so many of different action by reel itself, such as even speed reeling, fast pitch jerk, stop & go etc.

Hi, I cannot save the line settings after pulling 10m out at the end of calibrating it. It says line error. Any idea what happened?
Hi Anderson, thank you for your comment.
Unfortunately we don’t have BeastMaster on hand but could you make sure of those points?
1. Empty spool before start
2. At 10m winding / pullout please make sure the counter is not meter, it is the number how many times the spool was spinned
3. Select the right learning mode: E mode – if you know how long you spool / L mode – if you DON’T know how long you spool
4. Keep the tention no.3 when winding
