Today SHIMANO’s new 2024 Autumun / Winter products are announced officially, and the one really famous light weight spinning reel from SHIMANO is also included – 24 Vanford!
Vanford is the middle range spinning reel, paired with Stradic, belonged to MGL – Magnum Light Series, the SHIMANO’s light and sensitive model category, as of the previous name “Stradic Ci4+”.
Let’s check it out further together.
More “Dark Color” Update Look
What was your impression of the color, from the previous 20 Vanford? .. To me, the accent red was impacted and remained in my memory.
And the new look, still have that red, but much reduced. Instead, the black part is expanded more, but more like “gun metalic” slighty shiny color.
This design is especially to be matched with wider range of rods – as SHIMANO Kuroda pro angler says.
And interestingly, the body looks different from any other SHIMANO spinning reel.
Which means, this new 24 Vanford body is specially designed to this model only (so far), and use the unique body mold to make this parts.
Features – Really Like “Light Weight 23 Stradic”
This is, as we expected, the feature is really close to 23 Stradic.
Infinity Xross, is the main gear with wider teeth so that the drive gear and the pinion gear touches in wider area, so the moving pressure spreads wider, so the gear is more durable than the previous gear type.
This also creates reeling smoothness as well.
Infinity Drive is the feature to hold the main shaft by special bushes, so that it won’t touch with the pinion gear, so the fliction is much less.
This transmits the clanking power from the handle directly to the gear which enhances the reeling torque and power.
Duracross is the new type of drag washer fablic material which enhances the drag durability.
Personally this is the interesting point how smooth the new drag is? As the previous model drag was, slightly, but not that smooth.
Anti-TwistFin is also featured as well as 23 Stradic, but without Infinity Loop – the super close parallel wrapping, which reduces the line trouble much less.
Those are the same features to 23 Stradic, coming down from 22 STELLA as you may already know it.
And those are the differences as iconic of MGL Series:
MGL Rotor – The light weight, low inertia rotor made by Ci4+ is featured.
The official does not really mention about this, but this looks like the same / similar shape of 23 Vanquish, against reinforced plastic heavy roter of 23 Stradic.
The MGL Rotor of 24 Vanford is 19g lighter than 23 Stradic Rotor – SHIMANO official says.
(They don’t mention what is different from 20 Vanford so we are not really sure at this stage.)
And the body material is Ci4+, as well as the MGL Rotor, which is the carbon material that is light but has good enough strength.
We tried to gather more information if the gear box is made by Ci4+ as well but we have not received any information so far.
