While one of the biggest fishing show in Japan – Fishing Festival 2024 is finished and another – Fishing Show Osaka 2024 has just started today, there are plenty of new products releasing information here there.
Now, here is another highly anticipated reel is set to be renewed – SHIMANO 24 Scorpion MD 200.
Let’s take a look at the publicly available technical specifications and specs together.
The Same Name Scorpion MD, But Not The Same Features
The Scorpion MD, which was introduced with the concept of being able to compete globally in battles with big game and monster fish, is now adding a 200-size model.
What makes it interesting is that it’s not just a downsized version of the typical 300-size reel.
It seems to have higher line capacity than regular baitcasters and has been updated in various aspects to improve convenience.
MGL – Magnum Light Spool III
It seems that the MGL Spool III, which has become commonplace in recent years, is also incorporated into the 24 Scorpion MD (#300 does not have this).
Known for its light and smooth start-up, it has a good reputation in previous reel models.
This should allow for effortless and trouble-free casting even in the larger 200-size spools that tend to become heavier due to their high capacity.
The spool size is chosen to be 35mm in diameter and 23mm in width, which is said to be compatible with the SVS brake system.
SVS Infinity Brake System with fine-tuning capability
The SVS Infinity, equipped with the now commonly used centrifugal force brake system, is also available.
One of its attractive features is the seamless adjustment, which can be easily done with just a dial.
Now, let me introduce one significant and welcome update.
Unlike the #300 model, the #200 model comes with an escape hatch, which was not featured before. This escape hatch is a very welcome addition as it prevents the side panel from falling, addressing a concern that existed with the #300 model. With this, you can now confidently perform SVS block adjustments in the field.
Powerful & Silkey Smooth Reeling – X-SHIP x Micromodule Gear
This is undoubtedly a well-known technical characteristic of SHIMANO.
The smooth and agile winding sensation achieved by the X-Ship and Micromodule Gear, also adopted in the #300 model body, is already a widely recognized fact.
It goes without saying that this is a delightful feature.
Spec and Release Date
As mentioned earlier, the 24 Scorpion MD features a 200-size body with a line capacity of 20lb-100m.
For braided lines, it can accommodate approximately #2-200m and #3-150m.
However, unfortunately, the release date has not been determined at this time.
