Today I introduce you second items of DAIWA booth from Fishing Show OSAKA 2020, continued from part. 1 I have already posted.
In this year DAIWA has also released plenty of new items and here we picked up some that we thought very interesting.
20 TIERRA IC
This is not a baitcaster but low-profile overhead reel for boat, with IC counter panel.
There a lot of overhead reels with digital counters these days but especially this 20 Tierra IC price is middle range, but very light weight made by ZAION carbon body.
ZAION is a carbon materials originated by DAIWA, which is lighter than metals but keeps higher strength and toughness.
This reel only has 1 size but with 2 different size spools, weighed only 165g with digital panel.
As of this official catalog said, yes this 20 Tierra IC is really light.
The low-profile body fits into my hand really well, like baitcaster, so really easy to control.
This IC digital counter has 2 information – depth and reeling speed. The reeling speed is especially needed for Tai-Raba ( snapper rubber lure fishing).
When Tai-Raba the method is really simple, just drop to the bottom then retrieve to certain depth. Then drop, and retrieve.. When the jig goes further, retrieve up and drop again.
But this reeling speed is really important. The first thing you need to do is to adjust your reeling speed to match up to what fish like at the day. And this speed counter tells you how speedy our retrieving is, then you’ll see the right number when you get bites.
When it happens, you just need to reel the numbered speed you got bites next.
Also, this counter has sound alert for depth, which beeps by 10m. If the fish range is about 50m, you just need to drop your rig and wait until beeping 5 times, even without checking the counter.
This has right-handled and left-handled, so you can choose which side you want. I feel this is really important especially for even-speed reeling, if you only have one handle side and it’s not your usual, this would be really hard to achieve.
Handle is EVA round type and a little bigger than other baitcaster you use for bass fishing, and I really liked this. So fitted and easy to grab and hold, so even if you hook 80cm over snapper this can hold tight.
Seaborg 300MJ
Next one is new electric reel from DAIWA – Seaborg 300MJ.
“Seaborg” is the name of electric reel for DAIWA but this MJ series is a bit different – everything is designed to fight with real monster fish.
MAGMAX Motor creates great power of reeling that can defeat monster fish. Magmite structure helps gaining motor power. Powerful aluminium light handle arm and aluminium round knob. Body is also made by strong aluminium.
When I held this reel, I was so impressed that the jog dial is really easy to use and easy to be accessed. You just need to use one thumb finger, to off the clutch and to change the retrieving speed.
This also has gear change switch near the handle, which you can change low gear / high gear quickly. If you need more power to retrieve, switch to low. If you just need to pick up your rig from deep sea, use the speed gear.
Seaborg MJ series also has Seaborg 500MJ which is released last year, and this is the downsize model but still, #3 braided line can be winded 400m.
I would say this is really useful, especially for up to 10kg fish.
LATEO R / LATEO Mobile
The last one is onshore game fishing rod – LATEO R / LATEO Mobile, which is one of the most interesting item for me.
The long fishing rod LATEO is made for seabass fishing game. High spec but not expensive, a lot of seabass anglers in Japan loves and recommends it.
And now this LATEO R is the renewal version with new blanks technology – HVF Nanoplus and X45 wrapping.
Firstly they look really cool. The basic colors are not so different from the previous model, but the gold is more “gold” than that.
When I swing this new LATEO R, I was actually surprised. That reel was light and maybe a bit narrower than the previous model? But from butt to tip the blank was sharp and solid, with stronger repulsion. Probably because of X45 wrap, the rod is not really shaken side to side but only back to top, which I can imagine the cast accuracy can be gained much.
And the point I like DAIWA rods, is the strength of the blanks. This LATEO R is really narrow but felt solid as I said when I swung it. Lure weight capacity of ML models are up to 35g, but the DAIWA staff held its tip and tried to bend the rod, and I really felt the strong blank power. Not for kingfish, but if the target is like seabass type of fish, for 70-80cm? Maybe this rod can fight with them.
Of course you will need to adjust and use reel drag, but it is not a dream.
Now this LATEO also has new mobile pack rod, 4 piece version.
As well as the LATEO R above, this also has HVF + X45 high quality blanks but also, V-Joint is installed to those 3 joints, which DAIWA says makes joint parts bending smoothly like there is no joints.
Is that a bit over? Well if you compare to LATEO R, a little bit “Yes”, but I actually felt really smooth and at least felt better than the 2 piece previous LATEO.
It is not exactly the same as 2 piece LATEO R, but still really smooth, not like old mobile rods. Tip is really sensitive and whole blank is really thin and narrow.
Moreover, this LATEO Mobile has longer length model from 8’6″ (2.59m) – 11′ (3.35m), but even the longest model 110MH-4’s closed length is 89cm, 10cm less than a meter!
That means, you can even buy that big length rod for rock shore from Japan, and send it to overseas everywhere. And really easy to bring everywhere.
Actually this LATEO Mobile is one of the biggest, and most fascinating product from this Fishing Show OSAKA.
I really wish my excitement from DAIWA booth could be told clearly.. As I have already told in Part. 1, DAIWA is producing really interesting changes these years.
If you want to buy them? Then let us help you for your better fishing life.
Hi,
I would like to ask about DAIWA LATEO R 86ML, I can not find if the rod has fast action tip. Can you please inform.
Regards,
Hi Barkin, DAIWA LATEO R is not a fast action rod, they are more middle-fast tapered blanks.
Mainly, seabass rods like Lateo is designed for middle-fast taper as it can have nice balance of casting, lure control, and to fight with seabass.
