Have you used, or are you using DAIWA 23 AIRITY, the super light LT reels?
Released as a competitor of SHIMANO 23 Vanquish, we’ve been receiving lots of positive reviews since it’s out.
And now, DAIWA released even lighter models, especially for light games – SF: Super Finesse and ST: Sensitive Tune!
Let’s check them out together and see what’s integrated.
SF: Super Finesse Tuned Models – SF1000S-P, SF2000SS-H, SF2000SS-P, SF2500SS, SF2500SS-H
The new concept of LT spinning reels integrated since 22 EXIST, SF – Super Finesse is designed especially for the light style “finesse” fishing, such as blackbass, trout, etc.
The lightest reel in DAIWA’s history 23 AIRITY became even lighter, as SF2500SS weight is just 135g comparing to LT2500S, 150g.
Here are the new features added to SF tuned models.
Smaller Body
SF tuned models have one size smaller body than LT size so that everything gets smaller and even lighter.
Smaller Main Shaft and Rearrange Parts Inside
Main shaft has also been smallened and rearraranged all parts inside to create approx. 16% more of sensitivity.
Short Spool
This is interesting, DAIWA decided to feature shortened spool to the SF models, which is completely opposite way from SHIMANO long spool.
By this update, line angle will be smaller when line is dragged out, which makes dragging smooth even more.
Max drag power is set up to 3kg and therefore you can set even more sensitive drag tunes.
The Black AIRITY – 23 AIRITY ST
This looks very similar to the SF models above, but in fact, this ST – Sensitive Tuned models are designed more to be sensitive more for any information you can catch from your reel.
This ST models are based on AIRITY LT and SF models but specially tuned as of the following points.
No Magsealed
The biggest water-resistance technology of DAIWA is removed like previous FC models.
I bet you recognised the pressure of Mag Oil when spinning If you used or have used Magsealed reels, the oil is used around the main shaft area and that creates slightly sticky conflicts, therefore when you spin the handle quickly and release it, then the reel only spins a little and stop, comparing to non-Magsealed reel spinning a lot more.
This AIRITY ST does not have it, so the spinning feeling is dry, lighter and gives you more sensitivity.
Oiled Ball Bearings
Sealed ball bearings inside AIRITY LT are greased ones but changed to oiled bearings, so that the bearing spins lighter and smoother.
Black Body
This is not for the functions but the black colors looks cool! (Personal opinion)
ST or SF??
Firstly, this could be deffered from personal opinions and/or personal references, so please just check this as “my personal feeling”.
Now AIRITY has 4 type of models – LT, SF, ST LT, and ST SF and if categorised, they are like these:
- LT: Light and Tough, normal spec
Feeling: pretty normal, light but strong, pretty similar to 22 EXIST.
I Think this is the most versatile models, there sure is the difference of quality in between 22 EXIST and 23 AIRITY but basically, AIRITY LT can do everything what 22 EXIST can. - SF: Smaller body and spools
Same as above, affordable vesion of 22 EXIST SF. They are the same type, just different quality.
I would think to use this for saltwater light game to have lightness and saltwater-resistance.
Body weight is light but spinning is not so much lighter as of Magsealed and greased BBs. - ST LT: LT body without Magsealed, with oil based ball bearings
To me this is specialised for freshwater fishing, such as blackbass, freshwater catfish etc.
Or, for someone who does not like Magsealed.
The weight is the same as LT but spinning is definitelly lighter. - ST SF: Smaller SF body and spool without Magsealed, with oil based ball bearings
I felt this is like a “F-1 Car” type of things, the lightest feel in the DAIWA’s history.
Light weight and light spinning, less durability (theoretically), less torque and power as gears are smaller and handle arms are shorter.
This is the one especially for when you really love finesse fishing type.

Light game fishing – the more you do it, the deeper it gets.
