When SHIMANO renews STELLA then this will come as well – I assume this was expected by a lot of anglers this year, right?
YES, 23 Vanquish is announced back in this Fishing Festival 2023, and finally out at market!
It really is pretty similar to 22 STELLA, has “Super Slow Oscillate” Infinity Loop and lots of other features that 22 STELLA has, but lighter of course.
Let’s dig into this exciting product further.
“Light Weight STELLA” Features Coming from 22 STELLA
If you see the product page of SHIMANO official, you can see a lot of features are brought from 22 STELLA as I have already mentioned, as you might have already expected.
The biggest feature is this – Infinity Loop, which slown the oscillation very much so winded line goes pretty close to parallel and therefore it releases pretty smooth, which gives you extra cast distance.
I think this is the biggest subject when people talk about 22 STELLA. Some says it really gives you extra cast distance, some says not really, some says it can make line trouble..
But so far, I don’t really see the report having line troubles that much. Of course not zero, but I am not really sure if it really is because of Infinity Loop.
SHIMANO installed “Anti Twist Fin” for 22 STELLA which prevents a lot of line trouble caused by super slow oscillation. And of course, this is also installed to 23 Vanquish.
(Actually photo looks like it does not have it but Official says it has this.)
I have also heard, this Super Slow Oscillation reduces its movement and vibration when you spin your reel, which creates extra smoothness of the reeling, reduces reeling noise and which also enhances the sensitivity to catch more information from your rigs.
I feel this is really a big feature, if it really does not cause trouble.
Can’t wait to try it out.
Infinity Xross – wider gear teeth drive gear is also featured to new 23 Vanquish, which enhances gear durability as gears are touched by wider area and therefore loading of each gear teeth is less than previous shape.
Infinity Drive is there too. By this feature the main shaft won’t be touched to pinion gear, which reduces fliction pretty well, enhance smoothness of rotation, and enhance reeling torque as well.
Duracross, the new drag washer material that fibers are crossed 3D, vertically and horizontally so that it will be durable and lasts longer.
From these features, I really see this new 23 Vanquish is a “Light Weight 22 STELLA” and interestingly, SHIMANO pro anglers also call it as “Black Stella”.
Difference from 22 STELLA
OK so we have discovered those main features are brought from STELLA.
Then what’s the differences?
The main difference is all related to light weight.
Firstly, rotor and body cover are made by Ci4+, SHIMANO’s carbon material. Other body side is made by magnesium, which can be similar to STELLA.
Especially the rotor is called as Magnum Light Rotor whic is thinned and lightened rotor that has much lower inertia like 22 EXIST.
One more difference is the structure inside the body.
STELLAs of most of age always have 2 x oscillating guide pole inside to make inside rigid and durable, but Vanquish and others only have 1 x pole inside to lighten their weight as much as possible.
Weight comparison of 22 STELLA and 23 Vanquish are below:
2500SHG: STELLA 205g – Vanquish 165g (-40g)
3000MHG: STELLA 235g – Vanquish 185g (-50g)
“Black STELLA” is another High-End spinning reel of SHIMANO for light weight spinning.
Speaking of this Vanquish weight, actually 23 Vanquish weight is not really different from previous 19 Vanquish.
Some are slightly lighter but that won’t be something you can really feel.
However, as we have already discovered, this new 23 Vanquish includes a lot of big features from STELLA. Moreover, the main drive gear is actually enlarged from 19 Vanquish.
Basically, if you think to add any of new features it will put more weight. But this new 23 Vanquish has the same weight – which actually means it has a lot of technique to be lightened since the previous model.
The same weight, but Infinity Drive and larger diameter drive gear – surely reeling torque will be enhanced much more than previous model.
Spec and Release Date
23 Vanquish has similar models from 22 STELLA – 15 models from #1000 – #C5000 (#4000 body size).
Price is in between \65,300 – \68,500.
SHIMANO 23 Vanquish is actually out at market already.
Initially, like 22 STELLA has been sold out just from reservation and is taking really long to restock in market, this 23 Vanquish restocked quickly.
