If you are jig fishing angler, and target marine runner like kingfish, amberjack etc… SALTIGA is one of the most famous overhead jigging reel from DAIWA for a while.
And now, that SALTIGA, has new overhead reel model named “SALTIGA BJ” out mid of this year 2017.
This DAIWA’s new overhead reel is for all of jiggers, including Tai-Raba, micro jigging, slow jigging, even fast jigging, from total 8 models.
New type “RM” – For The Best Reeling Speed of Tai-Raba
This new overhead reel has new themed type “RM” – means “RakuMaki (easy-reeling)”, which only has 4:9 gear ratio, that looks like power and slow pitch reeling against the high-speeded gear types.
Daiwa team and Issei Nakai – Japanese Fishing charter boat cap and DAIWA fishing tackle tester pursued the best gear ratio and retrieving length to make the best Tai-Raba reeling speed for a while, and this is the answer of them.
The “RM” speed means “easy reeling, easy fishing”.
DAIWA’s Best Features – Mag Sealed and ATD
DAIWA’s water resistance feature, Mag Sealed is of course, installed to this new overhead reel. This feature uses oil to make water resistant wall but with smoother and lighter reeling.
Automatic Drag System – know as ATD is also one of the big features in this SALTIGA BJ. This makes the starting of dragging smoother so that the line will hardly break, harder than other reels.

just received the 200 SHL, and as a owner of 9 Daiwa Ryoga’s (non-magsealed) I have to say the Saltiga, is lighter version with a lot less DRAG. It’s nice, but the 20/25 Ryoga is still the king! Daiwa is making so many reels on the same platform, ryoga’s, catalina’s saltiga’s, basara’s, all based on ”price point”.
Hi Dave, thanks for your comment. I can get that Ryoga original is, of course very nice reel. This is only my opinion but to me, Ryoga and Saltiga BJ are designed in different way of purpose a bit, like you can either use Ryoga for bait fishing or lure fishing as it’s more average feeling. Instead this Saltiga is designed especially for jigging / heavy jigging, light jigging and / or TaiRaba (snapper rubber jig) so it either has doubled handle or long handle to make better action. But of course that can be varied person by person.
Hi! Looking to purchase the new Saltiga BJ! Trying to get info on the different models, but so far no luck. I am trying to decipher the differences and what the letters stand for. Been on the internet and still no luck. Last year I purchased the Saltiga 15 H in a lefty. I wanted a lower gear ratio as I use it for Tog fishing in Nj, but the 6.3 is Ok, as that was my only chioce in lefty. I am trying to compare size of the 100HL and 200HL to my 15H. I dont want a 7.3…too high! Also saw a “RM” after the BJ. and liked the lower 4.9 gear ratio! After the 100 is a “P” and “PL” I assume the “L” is lefty? Again, most important is the size comparison to the 15H I have. Would love to see side by side picture comparisons! Thanks

Hi Dennis, thank you for your comment.
OK, let’s see how it is. As you know the 100 / 200 is the reel size and 200 is bigger, and P / SH / H are very simple, P means power gear (meaning the lower gear ratio as 1:4.9), SH means “Super High Gear” (meaning the extra speed gear ratio as 7.3), and H is “High Gear” (meaning speed gear ratio as 6.3).
Secondly, as you guessed L letter means left handled, so that’s right!
RM is the new concept from DAIWA, means “Raku-Maki” (Japanese word meaning easy-reeling). That’s especially for Snapper fishing TaiRaba. That is actually about the gear ratio of 1:4.9, and this ratio makes reeling very easy, and the best speed for TaiRaba fishing.
Easy reeling, easy fishing is the new DAIWA concept RM.
Comparing about the size, actually the Saltiga BJ is smaller than Saltiga 15H you have, as 15H can have 500m of 24lb, but BJ 200 can only have 250m.
And we are sorry but we are not the seller, therefore we cannot supply extra photos.
with ratio 6:3 for satliga BJ 200HL..can i use it for speed jigging ..like mackerel n also for all fish..
Hi Mohd, yes of course you can. 7:3 is more better to do speed jigging of course, and if you are only keen to use for speed jigging, I’d prefer to use SH, but if you will use it for both speed / slow jigging 6:3 can be nice choice.
