SALTIGA, is the highest model of the DAIWA’s spinning for the salt-water games, but I know it can be too expensive to purchase.
But this new DAIWA spinning model Catalina ’16 – is the high performance model really close to SALTIGA but still cost effective.
It’s been 4 years since the last model has been released, and now this can be your “best buddy” of your saltwater game.
Magseal (Mag Sealed it’s called in Japanese)
DAIWA’s new technology Magseal. This was already installed to Catalina ’12 but it was just for the main shaft.
However, new Catalina ’16 , also has it on the ball barings – called Mag Sealed Ball Barings system.
By this system Catalina has powerful water resistance and smooth reeling lasts much longer.
DS4 is also used for the body and the rotor makes smooth and light feeling of reeling but still strong.
DS4 Air Rotor also makes nice balance and quick response.
ATD: Automatic Tournament Drag System
As you may know most of DAIWA’s reel out in 2015 or later have ATD (Automatic Tournament Drag) system, which makes the beginning of a strike the drag starts smoothly, naturally this Catalina’16 has it also.
However, this ATD is actually not the same as Exist ’15 and Luvias ’15 – more powerful, and smoother to fight against salt-water monster fish, like new SALTIGA.
ZAION Air Rotor and Super Metal Body
These are also used for SALTIGA.
ZAION Air Rotor achieves the reel light but strong, and smooth reeling. ZAION is the carbon fibre originated by DAIWA, is strong, light, and high performance against corrosion.
Super Metal Body is also the DAIWA’s most advanced technology for the reel body, and it makes 4 times stronger than the first SALTIGA model.
Spec and Release Date
New Catalina’16 has the same 5 models line-up, in between 3500(H) – 6500H from previous models.
New models are actually a bit heavier than the previous ones, and a bit expensive around 1,000 – 1,500 yen more.
Release date is not exactly announced yet but at April.
