Finally started Fishing Festival 2022, we have already introduced impacted new spinning reel from both DAIWA and SHIMANO… But this is totally unexpected…
The name, DAIWA 22 CALDIA SW!! – 3rd Monocoque Body saltwater (in Japan) – heavy duty spinning reel is out in this 2022.
Like, and Unlike CALDIA LT – Aluminium Monocoque Body Is Featured
Like light spinning reel 21 CALDIA LT – 22 CALDIA SW has Monocoque Body.
But unlike CALDIA LT – 22 CALDIA SW has aluminium MQ body therefore it is much more ridged, tough and durable, especially for heavy duty saltwater fishing.
As it is quite famous now, that MQ Body is very simple inside and spacy, so the main gear can be enlarged more that gives you extra retrieve power.
Tough, powerful and compact saltwater reel, but affordable.
Magsealed for Main Shaft
This is also very famous, iconic technology from DAIWA, Magsealed.
Called Mag Oil,that has magnetic, creates water-resitance wall in between its body and rotor to protect against saltwater.
This Magsealed is installed to main shaft of 22 CALDIA SW.
Other Features
- ATD – Automatic Tournament Drag System
- Large Tough Digigear
- Air Rotor
- LC-ABS
- EVA Round Handle Knob
- Air Bail
- Rotor Brake
- Manual Return Bail
- Perfect Line Stopper
22 CALDIA SW vs 21 SALTIST MQ
Personally think this could be a subject what anglers are keen to know.
Saltist is a heavy tackle models of DAIWA International, which does not actually exist in DAIWA Japan and as you know, 21 SALTIST MQ released last year.
Interestingly, feature-wise both reels are totally the same, as well as SHIMANO 21 Saragosa SW and SHIMANO 21 Stradic SW.
Aluminium MQ Body with Air Rotor, Magsealed for main shaft, Air Bail, ATD, Long Cast ABS.
Spec is also quite similar, and price range is also very close.
But one thing – 21 Saltist MQ has ZAION Air Rotor but 22 CALDIA SW does not actually mention it is ZAION but just says “High Strength Resin Material”, and this could be a big difference.
ZAION is DAIWA’s original carbon material which is lighter and stronger than other plastic material, but this 22 CALDIA SW Air Rotor does not even say ZAION-V, so this could be weaker and heavier than 21 Saltist’s.
Also, handle knobs are different – 21 Saltist MQ has metal round handle knob and 22 CALDIA SW has EVA round knob.
This difference really depends on which type you like better, so maybe this could be one thing to decide which one you take.
Other than that, this 22 CALDIA SW looks more like “Japanese version 21 SALTIST MQ”.

Hi,
Hope all is well
What is the difference between 6000S and 6000D Caldia SW Daiwa
Hi M Ansari,
the character “S” and “D” are description of the spool capacity. “S” means shallow spool that only has smaller line capacity which is PE#2-300m/#2.5-260m, and “D” means deep spool that has more capacity of PE#3-300m/#4-220m.
The body, rotor, and spool physical sizes are same, so you just only select by the line capacity you are after.
Spool line capacity
S- shallow
D- deep
Is it really true that Caldia SW air rotor is hot ZAION material?
Hi Cire, thank you for your comment.
Unfortunately yes that roter is not ZAION, so a little heavier and a little softer than ZAION air rotor.
