We also expected DAIWA’s new LT spinning reel could be CERTATE LT, but actually not.
Instead, super light weight DAIWA 23 AIRITY is out!
Just 2 years after previous Luvias Airity is out, surprisingly renewed 23 AIRITY has lots of features brought from 22 EXIST, but much more affordable..
Let’s dig further of this super interesting spinning reel.
AirDrive Design is Featured
The new spinning design concept AirDrive Design, is stareted by 22 EXIST previously.
This is actually receiving lots of positive impressions from anglers.
Currently we are under review video creation but we can say that’s really a great concept.
But yes, 22 EXIST was super expensive as well.
But this 23 AIRITY is interestingly, a lot of features are similar or the same to 22 EXIST but about 40k yen cheaper. Sounds great huh?
AirDrive Design is a new DAIWA spinning reel concept including those features:
AirDrive Rotor – New rotor design of brushed up Air Rotor. No screw outside and curvy shape is lighter than Air Rotor and has less inertia.
AirDrive Bail – Lightened bail than Air Bail by thinned tube. Bail angle is also redesigned therefore line can be indicated to line roller smoothly after casting.
AirDrive Spool – Spool has been redesigned and reshaped so it can keep enough strength and durability, but lightened more. Drag system has been separated to individual unit to even lighen it more.
AirDrive Shaft – Previously main shaft was touched to pinion gear and therefore there were more fliction. This AirDrive Shaft separate them apart by holding main shaft by special collars so it has less fliction that tells power input from handle to gear directly, and make extra smoothness of spinning.
Now you can have all of them in 23 AIRITY!
Rigid, Durable but Light Monocoque Body + New Rotor
23 AIRITY’s main materials are also the same as 22 EXIST.
Monocoque body is made by magnesium, and new AirDrive Rotor is made by DAIWA’s carbon material ZAION.
These are light yet rigid and durable as you may have already felt by past DAIWA reels.
The Lightest Weight in DAIWA’s History
Often EXIST and STELLA are compared as they are both flag ship spinning reel of SHIMANO and DAIWA, but mainly EXIST is categorised as light reel, rather than strong powerful reel like STELLA.
But this 23AIRITY is even lighter than new EXIST.. as DAIWA official says this is the lightest reel in their history!
Difference from 22 EXIST
From those above, it really look like 22 EXIST isn’t it?
But much cheaper… why?
OK, let’s see what is different from 22 EXIST.
First difference is the drag system.
22 EXIST has a ball bearing at the main shaft just right under the spool, so the drag can work smoother than 23 AIRITY.
Actually, you can add it manually by yourself though.
Secondly, ball bearings on both side of main drive gear are normal ball bearings, and 22 EXIST has Magsealed ball bearings.
As DAIWA staff says, 22 EXIST is fully waterproof but 23 AIRITY is not.
And I guess, reeling feel can be lighter because of this.
At last, 22 EXIST has full exclusive customer services for owners in Japan (not really sure about oversea models) but 23 AIRITY doesn’t.
From those points, it sounds like not much different isn’t it?

Spec and Release Date
23 AIRITY has #LT2000 – LT5000-C body sizes with variety of gear ratio and spool depth, pretty similar to 22 EXIST.
Release date is this month, mid – end of February 2023, so it is already on sale now.
